5 MINS WITH BRITTANY FERNS- Artist Collaboration Series
In case you missed it I launched an Artist Collaboration recently and I want to share with you a bit about this months incredibly talented artist Brittany Ferns.
I sat down with Brittany (if over facetime counts) over a cuppa and asked her some questions so we could get more of an insight into the woman behind these incredible paintings.
Firstly I just wanted to share a little story about her. I have admired her work for quite some time, it's always spoken to me and I've been drawn to it almost magnetically. After I went through cancer (the first time) and thought I was in the clear, I commissioned her to create a piece for our lounge room that visually represented my journey.
Working with her was such a delight, she is such a kind and talented woman who honours her creative process, it was clear we got along and respected one another. When the time came to to see the piece she she had made for us, I was completely blown away. It was perfection. She is such a talent!
As soon as I came up with the idea for the Artist Collab Series I KNEW she was the the perfect person to launch with, and here we are. Her art piece is available to purchase as a Tee, a Tote Bag or a Fine art print.
Alright, let's get into my 5 min chat with this amazing woman!
OK Brittany, here we go...
If you had to describe yourself in 3 words, what would they be?
Dorky, Persistent & a Daydreamer
What are some things that make your heart really sing?
Calm moments, warm weather, trail running, reflections on water, beach time with the fam and sleeping children!
Oh I feel you with those! What about the one thing that irritates you the most?
When I get in my own head too much.
What made you want to be a part of this collab? You said yes before I had even finished explaining it to you! You were so invested and it made the process so enjoyable for me.
’Support Your Girls’ has a beautiful voice and message that I believe needs to be shared. It is an honest, open and relatable platform.
Most of us know someone who has had cancer, sometimes we don’t always know what we can do to support them, we don’t always have the right thing to say.
This is a good starting point if, like me, you want to learn to communicate with friends and family who are going through their own cancer journey and to help spread the word on self checks.
I’m also keen to get a few new ‘SYG’ t-shirts from other talented artists too!
Are you much of a reader? What was the last book you devoured?
Yes, The Great Alone by Kristen Hannah. Loved it.
I'll have to grab a copy! Ok here's a random one...If you had to pick only one dish to be your 'last meal' what would it be?
Oooh, slow cooked pulled pork and black bean nachos with chipotle sauce and all the sides.
What do you like to wear when you go to work?
All my brand new clothes that don’t currently have paint stains all over them, just to make sure I can never find any ‘clean’ clothes in my wardrobe. Ha
What do you think about when you are alone in the car?
The window’s down, the tunes are cranking and the hand is cruising outside in the wind… Freedom!
Thanks so much for your contribution of art for our upcoming auction, but also for your time in this interview. I'm sure the readers loved finding out more about you.
Speaking of...where can they creep you online?
